    Molly,
    Please don't be so hard on yourself.
    IMHO, here is how to make it better:

    1. Write about what you know. The story you told about the McDonalds was spot-on. I remember that fast food joint and my family was of the same low opinion of it. Though we also all gazed in awe at the billboard as the number of burgers sold incremented.

    2. Recognize other quality bloggers and sites. Why not provide a link to your Dad's posts at the Record? They are always well written and topical. He might even write about you one day.

    3. Write lists. These should be about things you know. How about Top 10 Photography blogs? Encourage people to append their own. Let the sites you list know you have reviewed them. This leads to my last suggestion:

    4. Join conversations on other blogs and continue them with follow up posts on your blog.

    Hope this all helps and that you rate your blog against your peers and not multi-billion dollar corporations.
